Our Team
Tim Mathias - Associate Broker - CA DRE# 00819467
I have been a resident of the area most of my life. Shortly after graduation from college, I took up Real Estate as my lifetime occupation, and have never looked back. In the early 90’s I became the Broker of Rancheria Realty, and over the years I have expanded my expertise in all aspects of the industry. As the Broker of a small office, I am directly involved in representing both buyers and sellers, the part of the business I love best. Rural Real Estate and Country Property are my occupation and enjoyment.

Our story
In 1958 Bob and Lois Mathias, Hoosier natives (folks from Indiana) arrived in Anderson Valley. Bob was a teacher/coach and on an earlier trip to California, the beauty of Anderson Valley and a brand new high school caused Bob to apply for a teacher/coach position at Anderson Valley High. He was accepted for the open position. He, Lois, 4 kids, a horse, and a dog had found their new home. Bob continued at the school, eventually moving into an Administrative position.
Always an adventurer, in 1968 Bob learned there was an Administrative position open for an American School in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Empty nesting had begun, so the family now consisted of two kids. They spent the next 3 years in Brazil. During their stay they explored Brazil and other Central American countries, making many lifetime memories.
Their return to the USA took them to Chowchilla, CA, where Bob continued as a School Administrator. However, once back in the USA, their hearts yearned for life on their ranch, Alpine Meadows located in the beautiful Anderson Valley.

In 1976, Bob and Lois returned to Alpine Meadows. Bob retired from his school career. What the future would hold, they weren’t sure, but they decided to move “home” and figure it out. For the next couple of years, Bob sold insurance and dabbled in real estate. He went to work for Veryl Baxter, a local realtor whose business was located in an old house in Boonville. He learned quickly that the folks working there spent a lot of time playing cards. The real estate business seemed to be pretty slow. However, Bob liked the business, so he stayed on; not playing cards, but seeking ways to drum up business. And, it worked. In 1979 Veryl offered Bob the business and the property where the office was located, saying he could see Bob had a real knack for the business. Bob accepted the offer and Rancheria Realty was born.
Bob worked the business on his own for the first couple of years. The business was growing, the valley was changing and Bob needed help. So, he invited his youngest son, Tim (who had recently graduated from college) to join him. Tim joined Rancheria Realty in 1981. He and Tim worked together for the next 20 years. In 2000, Bob, who was now 80 years young, decided it was time to retire. Tim’s sister, Sheri had just retired from another career. She joined Rancheria Realty in 2001 and learned the business by working with Bob for a year.
How Rancheria Realty Began

In 2017 Tim’s son Josh, graduated from college and joined Rancheria Realty. Josh shares that he had always wanted to work in the family business, and always loved tagging along with dad when he was showing property. And, just as his Grandpa Bob had a knack for the business, so did Josh.
Now it is 2024 and Sheri and Tim are ready to pass the baton. Josh becomes the broker and takes over Rancheria Realty. Tim continues as an associate and is looking forward to the slower pace. Sheri’s grandson, Gavin joined the business as an associate. He and Sheri are working together, just as Sheri and her dad worked together 24 years earlier.
With gratitude and pride, the 3rd and 4th generations of the Mathias family continue to serve the real estate community through Rancheria Realty. And, they still reside in that old yellow house in Boonville. Stop in for a visit.

What We Love About Where We Live
“Mendocino County has so much diversity. I love the rugged beauty of our pristine coastline and historical coastal towns, the dense Redwood and Fir mountain land, and the oak-studded grasslands. There are great communities here filled with people who care about their neighbors. I happen to know many of these caring folks as I volunteer with them on the Anderson Valley Fire Department.”

“There are many things that I love about the Anderson Valley and greater Mendocino County. I love the diversity of topography, the mountains, valleys and rugged coastline, and the diversity of vegetation. The towering redwoods, the majestic oaks, and the lovely grasslands. There are so many things that grow well here as well, from flowers to fruits and veggies, to lovely and productive grapevines. I love that a traffic jam is 4 cars ahead of you on the Hwy, and urban and suburban sprawl is just something down the road a bit. The air is fresh and the hills are lovely, and the weather is great. Lastly, I love my country neighbors. There is a great diversity here and yet there is a lot of common ground. There is always some chatter at the post office with neighbors, greetings from people I know at the store, or restaurant. It is country living at its finest. There are times when I take it for granted, but it is often my clients that bring me back to reality, when they say how lucky I am to live in such a lovely and peaceful place. I reflect a bit and agree, yes I am a blessed man.“
- Tim
“Mendocino County has always held a special place in my heart. As a child, I would frequently visit my grandparents’ ranch there. The natural beauty of the area has consistently amazed me, and it continues to do so today. From the majestic redwoods to the stunning Mendocino coast and exceptional wineries, there is so much to explore. I particularly cherish the quaint small-town atmosphere of Boonville, Philo, and Mendocino.”
- Gavin
“Arriving in Anderson Valley in 1958 via the "old" Boonville Road at the young age of 9 left me with two lifetime impressions. At the time, my dad said: "This is God's country." Later when a friend visited from Indiana, the friend, green from the curves of the "old" Boonville Road said: "That's because only God would want it." There is no place on earth that was graced with more natural beauty than Anderson Valley. And, those terrible curves have provided a buffer from the growth that so many other beautiful areas of California have experienced. So, here I am many years later loving the beauty and the size of our wonderful valley. For many years I have also had the pleasure of being a member of the Historical Society Board. I often marvel at how much our community has changed and yet how much it remains the same. We are folks who love our valley and love contributing to the community, always appreciating the special place we get to home.”

What Our Clients are Saying About Us
-
"We really appreciate all that Josh did for us in our purchase of our vacation home. Josh and his father have great connections with various inspectors and are very knowledgable regarding the nuances of purchasing a more rural home which we were not experienced with. Keeping to our best interest, he advised us to get out of contract with a home that we really liked but had possible major septic system issues. While disappointed at the time, we ended up finding a better home in a better location that we could not have been more ecstatic about! He was able to negotiate a discount from our initial offer. And lastly, he is readily available with questions/concerns via email/phone with quick response times."

"We worked with Josh and Rancheria Realty to find and buy a beautiful property in Mendocino County. Throughout our time together, Josh consistently demonstrated knowledge of the area and the market. He is proactive, detail-oriented, and thorough. He routinely went above and beyond the call of duty to answer our questions and requests. Additionally, he is level-headed and emotionally intelligent. We have worked with other realtors in Northern California and elsewhere, and they do not compare to Josh. We cannot recommend Josh and Rancheria Realty highly enough.."

"Tim Mathias helped me and my family to purchase our home and was great to work with. He is personable and very knowledgeable about Anderson Valley and Mendocino County in general. Tim was readily available throughout our purchase and answered many questions, even after we had closed. Tim also made repeated trips to the house during escrow to facilitate inspections and access for various people needed in the escrow process. To top it all off, Tim recommended a lender who got me a much better deal on my loan than was otherwise available. I would encourage any prospective homebuyer I knew to contact Tim, he did a great job for us."
